Do you know how restaurants make simple dishes look like heavenly delicacies? Well, you can do it too, with some help from our step-by-step guide. Eggs Benedict is a common breakfast/brunch dish that all fancy restaurants have on their menus. It may seem complicated to make, but it’s fairly easy. To help you prepare your first batch of eggs benedict, we prepared a list of ingredients you’ll need to craft this dish to perfection.
What Are Eggs Benedict Anyway?
What separates this dish from any other that includes eggs is the process itself. It consists of runny eggs, toast bread, hollandaise sauce, and bacon. The classic breakfast ingredients, with the exception of hollandaise sauce, right? Although there are many conflicting claims on who invented it, one stands out the most. The idea was conceived back in the 1960s by Delmonico’s Restaurant by a chef named Charles Ranhofer. One of his guests grew tired of the same menu, so Charles thought outside the box and the dish Eggs Benedict was born. The recipe itself has evolved over the years and it’s served in many forms. Here’s one Eggs Benedict recipe that stands out the most, and it’s pretty simple to make.
What You’ll Need:
- A couple of eggs
- English muffins
- Bacon
- Vinegar, cayenne pepper, dry mustard
When it comes to the actual process of making Eggs Benedict, here’s a step-by-step guide.
- Step #1
The first step is probably the most complicated one. You’ll need to boil the eggs after breaking the shell. To do this, it’s best to go with the plastic wrap technique. Get a wrap and place it in a cup, covering the edges. Break one egg and place it inside to wrap and tie the plastic wrap.
- Step #2
Get a medium cooking pot and fill it halfway up with water. Set the burner to medium heat and slowly bring the water to boil. Once the water is boiling, use a spoon to place your wrapped eggs in the water, cook for three to four minutes then remove using the spoon.
- Step #3
Get some bacon, cut it to stips, and fry it on medium heat on some butter. You want to get that crispy look, but try not to overdo it.
- Step #4
To make a hollandaise sauce, you’ll need butter, vinegar, dry mustard, salt, and cayenne pepper. Bring water to boil in a small or medium-sized pot. Once it’s boiling, cover it with a bowl in which you’ll whisk your sauce. Add one egg yolk, a teaspoon of vinegar, salt, and dry mustard. Be sure to stir constantly while you’re adding the ingredients. You’ll want to create a creamy texture that’s not too thick. Add cayenne pepper while stirring, remove the bowl from the pot, and voila, your hollandaise sauce is done!
- Step #5
The serving needs to be done with passion and precision. On a regular plate, place your English muffins cut in half. Add your runny eggs carefully without breaking the outer layer. Top that with crispy bacon and finally, your homemade hollandaise sauce.
